What Is IELTS and Why Is It Important?

IELTS is an acronym for International English Language Testing System. This is an international form of standardized testing of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers.

The test is based on your listening, reading, writing and speaking ability and is used in countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the UK and USA.

The Scoring ranges from 1 to 9, with 1 being the lowest indicating that the test taker can only use a few words of English to 9 being an Expert user meaning the test take has full command of the English language.

Depending on the immigration program you’re interested in, your CLB score requirement will differ.  For instance, the express entry Federal Skilled Worker program requires at least 6.0 in each of the four categories mentioned above.  For the Federal Skilled Trades Program, you need to obtain a scoring of 4.0 reading, 5.0 speaking, 4.0 writing and 5.0 listening which is equivalent to a CLB 5.

The IELTS will allow individuals the ability to integrate into the Canadian economy and community.

These tests are valid for two years.

For CEC, you must score a minimum of CLB 7 for NOC O or A jobs, and CLB 5 for NOC B jobs.
